The Virtual Tour of Roche Amour Mt Road, SeychellesThis Virtual Tour of Seychelles is a good example of the type of terrain that you are likely to encounter crossing the island of Mahé. Mahé is definitely not a sand bar in the middle of the Indian Ocean !
The three main inner islands of the Seychelles - Mahé, Praslin and La Digue are quiet mountainous and are covered in lush almost impenetrable tropical forestation.
It is very easy to see why many of the early settlers had great difficulty in penetrating the islands. Even today it is not so easy, the local buses labour to the point of almost blowing up as they climb up and over the passes. Up here in the cool, it is a distinctly different climate to that encountered down on the coast just a short distance away.
The mountains and hills of the Seychelles have many footpaths criss-crossing them and it can make for a great change from spending endless days lying on a golden beach sipping alcohol!
